A number of rumours about food safety have spread in the media recently. It started with the baby food story at the Tesco’s then it went on with honey contaminated with antibiotics, Moroccan paprika infected with insecticides and fi nally the sliced large-sized branded salami manufactured by Pick Szeged fl uttered dove-cots. The authority and the affected parties did their jobs, reacted to the problem quickly and focused on its solution. The issue of food safety in Hungary may be raised with good reason in connection with the cases that followed on each other’s heels. We had a discussion with Mr. Zoltán Gyaraky, Head of the Department of Food Chain Analysis of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, who is competent in the subject not only due to his position he is now in but on the basis of his professional experience of several decades.
